Starting a successful clothing reselling business doesn’t have to be hard. Save time, hassle and money with these five tools:
Thermal printer and labels
Yes, you can have your labels printed free at the Post Office, but have you seen the lines in there? Waiting in line is a giant time waste. You can also print labels at home with your standard ink-jet printer on copy paper, and then tape the labels on your packages. This method becomes an expensive, time-consuming hassle once your sales volume grows. Decent clear packing tape is expensive. Reams of copy paper that must be folded or cut to fit on your packages are also expensive and a hassle. Once your reselling hustle reaches more than a few sales a week, you want to invest in a thermal printer and labels.
A thermal printer doesn’t require ink refills or toner. So no running out of ink/toner at inconvenient times, and no ink/toner refill budget. Thermal label printers are also small, so they will take up very little room in your workspace. A thermal printed label will give your packages a more clean, professional look than taped on copy paper labels. Plus thermal printed labels are quicker and easier to apply to your packages (just peel and stick) and are more durable during shipment than copy paper labels.
These two are good thermal printer candidates (I personally have the Munbyn):
And don’t forget the labels!
Security tag removers
When you’re a clothing reseller, coming home with huge bags of clearance items is the norm. It’s also the norm that one of those huge clearance hauls will contain an item with the security tag still attached. Don’t waste your time and gas money dragging the item back to the store and then waiting in line (again) to have the tag removed. Just have these tag removers in your reseller toolkit and remove them at home.
Neodymium magnet – this little magnet will remove magnetic based tags. Just tap the magnetic end on the magnet and pull the tag apart.
Hook tool remover – use this hook tool for non-magnetic long tags. Just sli. Thede them into the hole by the head and push. The tag will release.
Tagging gun
Another common problem for clothing resellers is maintaining the tags on “new with tags” items. More often than I care to note, I have accidentally popped tags off items while I was pulling them out of the bag and sorting them – ruining their “new with tags” status. This, however is an easy fix if your reseller toolkit includes a tagging gun. In two seconds, you can use your tagging gun to reattach the tags and start listing.
Tagging gun kit – comes with multiple gun needles for different fabric types, 3000 fasteners and two guns (a spare!).
Stain remover
Sometimes, even if an item is new with tags from the clearance rack of your favorite retailer, it will be stained. Clearance rack items have often been handled – a lot. Make-up stains, food stains, and spots from greasy hands are common. Don’t toss back a good buy because of a small stain. Get a good stain remover instead.
Gonzo Magic Stain Remover – This stuff is the truth. It’s odorless and clear. It can remove most stains including makeup, blood, and light grease spots – even if they’re old.
Measuring tape
No, you can’t use your kid’s pink ruler or that metal tape measure from the garage. You need an old-fashioned spool of measuring tape. This will make it easy for you to provide measurements for handbags and used clothing items without snagging or damaging your items.
Stocking your reseller toolkit with these basic items will make it easier for you to list faster, and ship faster. Because remember, time is money.
